If you aren’t at release 2024.1 of Kinetic or later, plan to upgrade before you start your transition to the browser. There are significant advancements and optimization that your users will appreciate if you upgrade first (or plan to move to the browser as part of your upgrade).

The Smart Client (classic forms) was designed over 20 years ago and provided great value for users at the time. Today, we live in a different world and with the completion of transformation of the user forms, Epicor has set the date for sunset (retirement) of the classic forms. Some noteworthy advances for those customers on earlier versions to consider as you move to the browser include:
- With the 2021.1 release of Kinetic, the classic forms moved into sustaining. At this time, new features were no longer added to the classic forms and were only made available in the browser forms. These forms will continue to be maintained per our standard lifecycle policy . See the FAQ for more information.
- With the 2023.2 release, we completed a significant investment in forms optimization. This made our forms more intuitive to the workflow of users. We also introduced the Kinetic SDK and browser first mode to make it even easier for users to transition to the browser. With the 2024.1 release, we retired the classic and modern homepages. Users still have access to the application forms.
- With the 2024.2 release, we completed final optimizations of the tools and announced the future retirement of the smart client and classic forms in 2026.1.
- The 2025.2 release will be the final Kinetic release where the Smart Client (classic screens) will still be available for customers. The Power Tools Client will also be made available to support some of our capabilities outside of the core application, including DMT, Functions, Advanced Print Routing, and Service Designer (SDK).
- With the 2026.1 release, we are replacing the Smart Client (classic forms) with the browser forms.
