Challenges with Their Old ERP System

Miller UK Ltd., based in the Northeast of England, manufactures a range of products for the earthmoving industries. The company offers quick coupler, buckets, compact and mining equipment, and special attachments for the construction,excavation, mining, and quarrying industries worldwide. Miller’s extensive range of Couplers and Buckets ensure that their customer’s equipment can rapidly access/change the accessories needed to maximize production hours, reduce work lead-time, and enhance yield on every job. Miller UK is an international company with about 180 employees, with manufacturing in the Northeast of England, a joint venture plant in Northern China and customers worldwide, including USA, Europe, India, Middle East, and Australia.

By 2016, Miller UK had realized that they had outgrown their single-site ERP system. With business becoming more global, a new joint venture, multiple warehouses and multiple products, the system no longer fitted their needs. For example, they did not have integrated accounting, making it challenging to get clear visibility into costs, margin, and profitability. As their business grew, they also needed better visibility than what their old ERP system could provide into stock in-transit, supply chain, production efficiency and WIP. Miller’s products are complicated, and the legacy system did not have a configurator to allow the customer to easily find the right product. As a result of these varying business challenges, Miller knew they needed to move to a different ERP system.

Selecting and Implementing Epicor Software

They evaluated several vendors and liked Epicor® Kinetic’s emphasis on manufacturing. Epicor Kinetic also provided them the modern toolset and platform capabilities, integrated accounting, advanced production and purchasing, as well as the multi-currency/multi-site/multi-warehouse features they needed. They also found the system relatively straight forward to customize to fit their needs. Finally, they strongly felt that they would not outgrow the system as they found it to be very comprehensive and encompasses everything they would need today and in the future. As a result, Miller UK selected Epicor in 2016 and went live with the ERP solution very quickly.

Its product costingmodule provides comprehensive cost capture andvisibility, which enables Miller to re-examine their processes and identify opportunities for improving margins.

Customer focus is the mantra that guides all employees’ actions at Miller and Epicor has played in big role in enabling that. For example, customer feedback surveys were added as a customisation to Epicor. This enables the company to get feedbackfrom their customers on their products and their service levels, and then use those insights to improve customer experience. Due to better integration between various modules, Miller service representatives can now respond to customer queries more effectively.

With more streamlined, efficient, and integrated processes from implementing Epicor Kinetic, Miller was able to launch new products and services at the end of 2020 and take market share away from competitors. “We have rapid growth plans for new products, services and markets and Kinetic provides us the foundation to help us get there”, said Iain Lytollis, IT Manager of Miller UK. “We expect to double our business in the next few years.
