The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) that will introduce Epicor as a solution partner

Epicor Software Corporation, a global leader in business software solutions for manufacturing, distribution, retail and services organizations, today announced the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) that will introduce Epicor as a solution partner in promoting Industry 4.0 with its Epicor enterprise resource planning (ERP) and manufacturing execution system (MES) technology. Leveraging the experience and expertise of HKPC in manufacturing and materials technology, the partnership will help elevate and boost the competitiveness of Hong Kong manufacturers, preparing the region for the new industrial revolution -- Industry 4.0.

Germany has already begun preparing for the fourth industrial revolution, coining the new Industry 4.0 initiative in 2013. Industry 4.0 aims to connect smart production processes together to promote more flexible production infrastructures, as well as encourages firms to upgrade their capabilities in order to continue developing innovative new production systems and products. An optimised, decentralised and autonomous real-time production model is the key behind Industry 4.0's concept of smart manufacturing. At the moment, Hong Kong's manufacturing industry still lags behind what is required to achieve Industry 4.0.

At the signing ceremony, Mrs. Agnes Mak, executive director of HKPC, stated, “To promote 'Industry 4.0' and help enterprises understand the 'Made in China 2025' strategy initiated by the Central Government, HKPC is proactive in introducing related technologies. We are pleased to partner with Epicor Software to launch this pilot collaboration scheme. By integrating HKPC's experience in manufacturing and materials technologies with Epicor's advanced manufacturing execution system, the partnership will enhance the adoption of smart production management in local industry, paving the way for Industry 4.0.”

“Over the next decade, manufacturers will need access to highly flexible mass production processes that can be rapidly adapted to market changes - ERP and MES technology will become even more central to production in this environment, and combined with Industry 4.0, the new environment will thrive,” said Vincent Tang, regional vice president, for Epicor North Asia. “We are pleased to partner with the Hong Kong Productivity Council to provide industry expertise to drive manufacturing operations forward.”
