Epicor helps Moana Nursery Keep Calm and Garden On

Moana Nursery, a Nevada based nursery and landscape company with locations throughout the Reno-Sparks area, had a challenge. Because of COVID-19, they needed to change the way they were servicing their community. As the government issued stay at home orders and declared all non-essential businesses needed to close their physical stores, it was unclear how the business would be impacted. What was clear was that customers wanted alternatives to the conventional in-store shopping experience. The Moana Nursery leadership team quickly identified the need to open an online storefront and wanted a solution that would allow them to pivot their business to an online retailer if necessary.

“We couldn’t be happier. In only two weeks we launched an eCommerce site that generated over 370 orders and $33,000 of additional sales in just fourteen days since go-live. It far exceeded any expectations that we had.”

President & CEO

Recognizing the need, the team knew they needed to identify a technology solution that would allow them to open an online store which easily connected to their retail point of sale solution. In less than two weeks, Moana added online storefront capabilities and launched a fresh new website. By extending their existing Epicor Eagle POS, with Epicor eCommerce which includes built-in payment capabilities, Moana Nursery was able to evolve their business and build a foundation to serve their community not only during the pandemic but well into the future. The Moana team used the Eagle Compass solution to easily determine the most important inventory that they should initially include on their site. “In less than 14 days, we added an eCommerce solution that is adding tremendous value to our business (24 hours a day) without disrupting our retail flow. The integration from iNet to Eagle POS has been seamless and turns every eCommerce transaction into an “Order” that our team is already used to processing,” said Scott Gescheider, President.

The results have been a welcome surprise. The first day live they had 31 orders and $1,800 of additional sales. It gave Moana Nursery’s customers the ability to keep shopping while maintaining social distancing and reassured Scott. “If our storefront gets shut down, we can stay in business.” Moana has pivoted in other ways too. They now offer curbside pick-up and delivery for these orders, are communicating with their customers via text message straight from Eagle POS, and, in some locations offering additional personal shopper assistance, all made possible by adding eCommerce functionality to their website. This business agility has not only allowed Moana to deliver great customer service, it’s allowed them to take the loyalty already established with their rich customer base and extend it wherever the customer is located. The increase in business has been great as well. Scott shared, “We couldn’t be happier. In only two weeks we launched an eCommerce site that generated over 370 orders and $33,000 of additional sales in just fourteen days since go-live. It far exceeded any expectations that we had.”

As their website so brilliantly states, they can continue to keep calm and garden on.
