Manufacturers in ASEAN are realising the need to digitalise and embrace Industry 4.0 to remain competitive and relevant. Countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have already launched separate Industry 4.0 roadmaps to spearhead their respective economic agendas. However, one concern is that only 13 percent of respondents said their companies had begun the digital transformation process.

Singapore, being the hub of the region, recently hosted the Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific (ITAP) 2018 event, to provide a platform for manufacturers across ASEAN link up with relevant thought leaders in the industry and learn more. The event attracted more than 10,000 participants across the region.

Epicor participated too, sharing expertise in and showcasing our solutions and capabilities when it comes to addressing the challenge of gearing up for Industry 4.0.

Epicor recognises that manufacturers in the region are facing a transitional period. Industry 4.0 will change business models, impact output and processes across industries, and will lead to new business and production models, standards, and practices.

With these challenges in mind, we were able to showcase our Connected Factory during an interactive demonstration that allowed visitors to experience the factory of the future in action. It showed the journey of a personalised luggage tag. From order, to manufacturing, then shipping-without any human intervention, highlighting our capabilities in automating manufacturing processes. It demonstrated the entire process, from receiving an eCommerce order for the tag, through the manufacturing process and tracked progress using Epicor ERP. This demonstration brought to life what it really means to digitally transform through a simple and effective platform.  Participants fed back that it gave them an insight to the capabilities available to help them on their journey of growth and transformation.

ITAP 2018 also invited Billy Lui, business solutions director for Epicor Asia, to share insights with influencers and manufacturing delegates. He presented on the challenges manufacturers are facing in the region and offered practical advice on how they can start and progress their digitalisation journey.

Embrace change
Industry 4.0 is here and now. It is no longer just a matter of just jumping on the bandwagon. Unless a company understands the specific needs of its business and is actively adapting, it is at risk of being left behind. We were delighted to be part of this event in Singapore, and we left them with one overarching message. ASEAN manufacturers need to begin their digital journey now in order to grow their businesses for the future.
