Over and over we hear the importance of education for all of us from a professional to personal standpoint. Yet, how much do companies really invest in organizational learning and development? In 2011 for the U.S. only, over $156.2 billion was invested in employee learning. The key here is the investment in learning.
There is a growing demand with less budget for training within organizations yet an increase in demand for online education. In fact, by 2018, the global market for eLearning (online/self-paced) is projected to reach $168.8 billion. Additionally, 61% of mandatory or compliance training will be delivered online. And, 23% of executive development delivered online.
Yet, training departments still have limitations - such as 76% of companies do not have podcasting in their training curriculum and 51% of companies do not use simulation tools.
Effective education programs will need to deliver results for the workforce trends today and in the future – with over 47% of the US workers under the age of 35 by 2014, education must be blended with both formal and informal content. Innovation, technology and delivery will all be key to meeting the investment in learning.
