After a long stretch of working at a different hardware store for many years, Jay Bullock opened Jay's Hardware Inc. in March of 1992 with a retail space of 3,000 square feet. Family owned and operated with excellent employees, Jay's has grown to 12,000 square feet in its span of 20 years in operation. The company's motto is "Jay's, a hardware store with a whole lot more!" The company seeks to give their customers a great selection while providing wonderful customer service to keep their customers coming back.

An Epicor® Eagle® customer since 2005, Jay's Hardware was in search of a method to improve employee training. The company discovered Epicor® Training on Demand™ in 2011 through an Epicor sales representative. "We wanted to improve the knowledge base of our employees before they had to use the Eagle system in front of customers," said Preston Bullock, president of Jay's Hardware Inc. "I would train employees myself, from start to finish with each individual employee. It was very time-consuming-four days of hands-on training, no computer training was available in our store."

Prior to Training on Demand the company relied on paper manuals, and pulling managers from daily duties to train employees. "We typically hire three to four cashiers each spring," said Bullock. "Before Training on Demand we spent three to four afternoons with each new cashier in training. Now I save an average of 12 hours per cashier! The program is fairly inexpensive when comparing it to other training programs or courses. Before we had Training on Demand if I wanted an employee to take a specific course I would need pay at least $100 just for a course.

But since implementing Training on Demand I can load any classes to the program, my employees can take them when they have some free time, and they learn a lot more."

Jay's Hardware maintains approximately 10 employees in their center of operations. It is crucial for the company to get its employees trained and comfortable with the system as soon as possible. "When we were searching for a training program it was important that our training program encouraged employees to be self-sufficient," said Bullock. "We only have a couple managers and they have a lot of other responsibilities they need to focus their energy on. With Training on Demand our employees can take their time to understand the system for themselves."

Currently the company is primarily using Training on Demand for new hires, but in the future hopes to use the program for other training purposes within the business. "We really like how Training on Demand is so flexible-we can really customize it for our specific business needs," said Bullock. "It's also inexpensive, a great time savings, and a great way to get new employees up to speed quickly."
