"Feruni's business from overseas is rapidly growing. We have been successful in our home market, Malaysia, and are now setting our sights on serving our customers in the region better. We need the capabilities to manage a much more sophisticated operation, on a much bigger scale than what we started out with 12 years ago."
Ms. Gidget Lim, General Manager | Operations at Feruni
Feruni Ceramiche began their business in 2001, focusing on the supply of quality porcelain and ceramic tiles to commercial and residential properties. Its products are available either directly to project developers or through retail stores located across Malaysia, where it is headquartered.
In 2011, Feruni began producing its own tile designs and commissioned the production of these to manufacturers in the region. This move placed Feruni on an accelerated growth path, with double-digit business growth year after year.
Today, Feruni is a leading tile manufacturer and supplier, with six offices across the country, and plans to expand its operations globally. Feruni's tiles have been used in many well-known properties in key markets across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Feruni was outgrowing the capabilities of its enterprise accounting system. The billing and accounting software was not integrated to other back-end systems and data, limiting inter-department collaboration and communication. The entire process, from the closure of sales to delivery and billing, were handled by several disparate systems. Sales staff were not able to retrieve real-time data on the movement of inventory and so were not able to advise their customers on the status of their orders.
"The system did not always reflect the true status of our inventory. When we issue a delivery order to customers, the system will automatically indent the stock from our inventory. However, in reality, the goods have not left our site," Ms. Lim commented.
The accounting system was also not aligned to Feruni's business process. Ms. Lim continued, "The sales cycle involves picking up the tiles, packing, shipping, and finally invoicing. However, a sales staff may have issued an invoice to a customer upon the closure of sales. From the accounting system, there was no way of knowing whether the goods have been delivered."
Feruni began looking for a solution that could support its rapid business growth. The company wanted an integrated enterprise resource planning solution that can provide them with the consolidated information on inventory and billing. After an extensive evaluation process, Feruni chose the Epicor Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for its flexibility, scalability, and ease of use. Epicor ERP provides a single, end-to-end software solution that streamlines Feruni's supply chain operations to improve customer responsiveness, enhance process efficiency, and reduce costs across the enterprise.
Feruni chose the concurrent licensing model, which provides flexibility to support their part-time and casual workers at an optimized cost. The option also provides easy scalability, ensuring that the system will easily grow to accommodate the Epicor expanding business.
"Flexibility and scalability were important factors for us. Feruni is a rapidly growing business and we have plans to expand our product lines as well as further our reach overseas. We needed a system that would easily grow with our business and this is the Epicor winning point against other software we reviewed." Ms. Lim concluded.
The entire implementation took only three months and was only possible because of the close cooperation between the Epicor team and Feruni. Despite the accelerated schedule, the system went live without any major issues.
Visibility is a key benefit for Feruni. Epicor ERP consolidates Feruni's inventory, sales, and finance systems into a single platform. Through an integrated dashboard, the various departments now have a common view on the status of customer orders across the supply chain, giving better control over service levels. Sales staff can easily track the movement of inventory to provide accurate and real-time updates to customers.
"Businesses today are moving at an accelerated pace. Sometimes, our customers may require us to fulfill their orders earlier than agreed. Epicor allows us to closely monitor the live status of production and inventory, and advise the relevant departments to help expedite order fulfillment. Our customers appreciate such responsiveness," said Ms. Lim.
Epicor ERP also comes with built-in business intelligence and data analysis capabilities, providing important reports that help Feruni make informed business performance decisions. With the Epicor user-friendly interface, teams can also easily extract the analytics they need to identify process improvements at the department level.
"We recently presented to management key performance indicators that are important to our business, such as production cycles, delivery lead time, and customer credits. In the past, this was either not possible, or would take days. Pulling data from various departments was also not easy. Now, we simply configure the right query to extract the intelligence from various sources across the business. The ability to identify issues and opportunities quickly is very important in our dynamic business," Ms. Lim concluded.
